Birmingham Grammar School Entry Levels for 2021 Intake

Exam

Exam

Birmingham Grammar Schools have announced the score which will allow a child entry into schools. If you are trying to gain a place at a grammar school in Birmingham or Sutton Coldfield, now is the time to review your child’s score following the instructions below and make your choices for their secondary education. Here’s a breakdown of the key points to note and what will happen next. Read on…

When will results arrive?

Results will arrive by 16th October 2020. This gives you plenty of time to complete your Local Authority Preference form by 31st October. As long as your child has reached the qualifying score for a Birmingham grammar school, you’ll be able to include them on the preference form. If your child does not achieve the qualifying score they won’t be considered for a place so you shouldn’t put them on the form.

Whilst you can include your child once they have reached the qualifying score, you need to consider that the majority of places go to children achieving the priority score or higher whilst residing in the catchment. You will want to consider this, alongside cut-off score data from previous years to decide whether it is worthwhile trying to seek a place at a sought after school. To check the previous year’s cut-off scores, visit the website of your school of choice.

As the answer sheets are marked by computer there are no remarks available. The result that comes through on the letter will be the final decision as to whether they have gained a place at grammar school. Remember, the tests have been standardised to make sure differences in age don’t affect a child’s chances at entry.

When will I find out if my child has a place?

Your Local Authority will make offers on 1st March 2021. If you need more details on this, check the Local Authority website.

When you completed your preference form, you will have done it in order of the schools you wish your child to attend. If your child meets the entry requirements to more than one school, the school listed top on your form will allocate them a place.

Qualifying Score Data

In order to decide on the Birmingham grammar school entry levels, they set a qualifying and priority score. When filling out the local authority preference form, these are the key numbers to consider. Remember, if your child scored below the qualifying score, you shouldn’t include the school on your form.
