May 2020 – Update on Smart 11+ Tuition in Harborne, Solihull and Sutton Coldfield

Hello everyone!
I thought I would update you on all the goings-on at Smart 11+ Tuition. I am so pleased with how hard our pupils are working. Their commitment to performing at their best in the 11+ exam, in the face of unprecedented disruption, is an ongoing source of inspiration.

Safety First

One of the main things people say to me when they are signing up at Smart 11+ Tuition is that they chose us because they want their child taught by a person, not a computer. This has always been our focus and we are desperate to get back in the classroom. I am also very aware that the safety of your child is of the utmost importance to you – it is to me too.
Whilst we have continued to offer our excellent tuition to pupils from our Solihull, Harborne and Sutton centres, I know that many of you will be interested to know about our plans for getting back into the classroom. This is particularly the case now that schools are looking likely to return in June for certain year groups.

I am continuing to put plans in place for when we can return safely to tuition at our centres. This is a complex process because we operate on multiple school sites, each having their own rules.
Once we come to an agreement with our partner schools and are able to reopen we will make sure that social distancing measures are strictly adhered to with new strategies for entrance/exit of the building along with new rooming arrangements. Staff will be equipped with PPE and we will be providing hand sanitisers in every room to ensure a safe in the environment for your children. When we know more information based on when we can return we will be in touch. In the mean time we want to continue to support your children’s education and offer help and assistance to you in any way we can.

I am pleased to see that alongside the regular learning, which is being provided by email and video, that BOFA has also been well used. This platform is custom built to enhance the learning of pupils. I urge you to make use of the tests for your child; They will be invaluable when it comes to September’s 11+ exam. As ever, if you have any questions about any aspect of BOFA or our regular learning, please email learn@smart11plus.co.uk.

We are delighted to say that June will be our ‘Reasoning Month’.
Reasoning is extremely important in the 11+ exam and falls into two categories:

  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning

There will be a more in-depth blog on this in the coming days. Keep an eye on social media for challenges and events too! I’d also love to see your child doing any activity which tests their reasoning skills. Are they super quick at doing a Su Doku? Can they complete a Rubik’s Cube in under a minute? If you’re happy to share a video, I’d love to show off their skills on the Smart 11+ Tuition Facebook page

I just wanted to write one final note of thanks. Your ongoing commitment to our centres in Harborne, Solihull and Sutton Coldfield has meant that we can look at a bright future of helping bright children hone their skills to give them a better chance at gaining a place at grammar school.
