Small Groups: The Key to Success!

Our tutors, teach, interact, and discuss, engaging the children throughout the whole session. We tutor in small group classes, with a maximum of six children, to enable a positive atmosphere, where individuals can share ideas, challenge each other, and get the support they need from their expert tutors. It also encourages some light-hearted and healthy competition!

As our groups are small, we also offer individual attention to students that are less assured and need a little extra support. Our 11+ course is designed to offer entrance exam support to a vast array of ability levels, to ultimately help with their lifelong learning and confidence.

What happens in a Smart 11+ Success Course™ Session?

Following the initial assessment, we will get your child settled into their new tuition class, meet their specific Maths and English tutors and start their educational adventure!

To help calm first day nerves, we have detailed below exactly what happens in a Smart 11+ Tuition session.

1. Meet and Greet

When you first arrive at the Centre, our friendly Centre Manager will be waiting to meet you. Once you’ve said hello, they will introduce you to your tutors and provide you with a pack of information, including your brand-new books, vocabulary booklet, reading list, and Steps to Success!

2. Starter or Recap Activity

The session will begin with everyone warming up through a quick-fire activity.
These are designed to remind pupils of the topics they covered
the week before and challenge them with fun questions
and engaging content.

3. Introduce New Knowledge

The tutor will then go through some example questions of the new topic you will be learning this week, utilising the white board and the interactive tablets to support your understanding. Don’t forget to ask questions! The tutors often engage in discursive activities to help you develop your confidence and verbalise your knowledge.

4. Independent Learning

You will be encouraged to engage directly with 11+ style questions. This can be challenging and may reveal some areas we need to work on. Our aim is to challenge you in a competitive group environment, that is suited to your own personal ability level. This enables you to work at a respectable pace whilst engaging with hands on activities and a variety of specialist questions.

5. 1-on-1 Support

Don’t forget our tutors are there to help you!
If you are stuck on a tricky or new question, pop your hand up and our dedicated team will be more than happy to answer any question you may have.

Our tutors are there to support and motivate you. We want to provide you with the tools you need to take the lead in your learning and develop academically.

6. Instant Feedback

At the end of each session, you will be presented with feedback in your books from each of your tutors stating What Went Well (WWW) in the lesson, a point on Even Better If (EBI) and/or an Action Point (AP) for the next class.

This is to help you confidently reflect on your lesson and create positive actions in your next class.

Our tutors also wait outside the building after the session to speak to your parents and offer further advice and support.

Extensive and bespoke homework at the wave of your hand!

Our fantastic online homework platforms are both adaptive to ability and level. As more and more resources have become available online, we wanted to keep up with the times and integrate digital learning into our pupil experience.

BOFA tests, teaches and retests consistently tracking student progress, personalising each step, and boosting learning with a laser-focus on weaker areas. The platform offers tests in all four areas of the 11+ exam and comes highly recommended by Eton. Not only that but BOFA creates personalised questions according to your child’s answers, they also provide plenty of practice questions and explanations. The platform is incredibly positive and includes an automated awards and medal system that rewards not only correct answers but timekeeping, commitment, and improvement.

Bedrock is another online platform we provide for our pupils. This platform focuses on English skills and has a comprehensive vocabulary curriculum that teaches academic vocabulary and grammar through original fiction and non-fiction, developing literacy for reading, writing and oracy. Bedrock has an immersive content that helps to develop children’s range of vocabulary, and like BOFA Bedrock gives parents crucial data and an invaluable insight into the progress your child is making.

We also provide other resources to support your child’s needs.

Our vocabulary booklets are incredibly popular (that may be because if you finish six words a week you will receive a lollipop or sticker!) and greatly received by our pupils. This is a tool to help develop their understanding of antonyms and synonyms as well as giving them opportunities to use a thesaurus and dictionary.

Over time they build up a bank of new words that thy can start using in everyday conversation within and beyond the classroom.

We also provide an extensive reading list to each of our pupils. This has been specifically designed with bright and exciting themes to encourage them to look beyond the cover and get involved. We have recommended that each child read twenty-five books a year to help develop their reading and deductive comprehension.

My son attended Smart 11+ Tuition in Solihull during the revision period in preparation for the grammar test. The 2 places where they held the sessions were conducive to students learning. The tutors (staff) were very patient and supportive, especially because my son has special needs and they have been brilliant with him ( and to the other students of course!) facilitating his learning. They taught him how to build his confidence with their way of teaching as well as motivated their students by keeping lessons fun, both ways on line and face to face teaching. Amy is a qualified teacher with 15 years experience.  She did her PGSE following her BA Hons in Education and more than anything Amy is ardent about curriculum and developing unique resources to support children on their educational journey. 

In one of her previous roles, she created and delivered a bespoke curriculum to help children with additional needs reach the national standards in SATs tests. 

Here at Smart 11+ Tuition, with a team of 11+ experts, Amy has implemented the creation, design, and release of the Smart 11+ Success ™ Course.

Katie is currently completing her Doctorate in Shakespeare and Renaissance Drama at Kings College London, following from her Masters and Undergraduate from two red brick Universities. Katie is passionate about writing and encouraging others to develop their love of all things English! 

Katie loves working in the educational sector. Having qualified as a teaching assistant in 2021, Katie has built up her experience training both adults and children and is eager to support young children in their aspirational career paths.

Emily is in experienced in educational development, having worked for high-end retail chains and then youth education charities. Emily graduated from University of Birmingham with a BSc in Geography. 

Her biggest role to date has been becoming a mum to two beautiful children and has really focused Emily’s personal aim to expand on the academic opportunities for young people, whilst providing exceptional support and guidance to parents and carers.

Having worked at Smart 11+ Tuition since its infancy, Emily has been integral to the development, planning, and implementation of the company’s ethos and growth. With care and integrity at the heart of everything Emily does, she has directed the company to change children’s lives through bespoke educational support, resources, and opportunities. 

Across all the branches at Smart 11+ Tuition, Emily aims to get best possible outcome for each and every one of our pupils.

Sam

Founder

Our founder, Sam is a qualified teacher, with over 15 years’ experience in education. He is dedicated to empowering opportunities for children to learn and develop in a friendly and resourceful environment. Sam is focussed on Smart 11+ Tuition and has been working on providing further access to our outstanding resources and development prospects for children across the West Midlands.

Recently, Sam and the curriculum team at Smart 11+ have remodelled the 11+ curriculum at the company and have created The Smart 11+ Success Course™. This labour of love has paid off with more children going to their preferred school as a result.

Sam has 3 children of his own and loves spending time with them. He is a parent governor at his children’s primary school and is thrilled by the challenge of overseeing the educational performance at the school. Sam is also an enthusiastic trustee of a local charity who distribute funds to a wide range of social causes.
